Mila Morgulyan was born into a Jewish family in St. Petersburg, just a few years before World War II. After her family returned from evacuation in Central Asia, life in the city was difficult, marked by severe shortages of food and coal for heating. Even so, Mila and her sister were enrolled in the nearest music school, where they studied piano, solfège, choir, and music literature for seven years.

Mila never became a professional musician, but she carried her love of music throughout her life. She often said that music had helped her survive the hardest times.

In 1993, Mila immigrated to Israel. She and her husband, Yaakov, joined an adult choir in Kiryat Bialik, an involvement that became a central part of their lives for over twenty years. Mila was an active participant in the local choir and a resident of Kiryat Bialik for the last thirty years of her life.

This scholarship was established in Mila's memory by her daughter, Tali Shenfield, to pass on her mother's legacy of love and appreciation for music to a new generation in the hope that music will open their hearts to the same beauty and wonder it gave her.
